In Home Run Race you can earn points to purchase items in the VP shop. Prior to starting this mode you must first choose a player to bat with. On the player selection screen note each player has a different "VP Rate" so power hitters such as Blanco from the Dragons will only have a VP rate of 12 while a poor hitting "G" rated hitter will have high VP rate of 250. So basically if you do well with poor hitters you can earn alot of points fast.

On the top left of the image you'll start with 10 white baseballs which means you get 10 pitches to hit. If you hit a home run (in VP Challenge) a red bonus ball will appear. After the first 10 pitches are done you'll get a chance to earn extra points during the bonus ball round. So if you have 5 red balls you'll get an additional 5 pitches to hit. On the top right it shows how many total points you've earned during the round.

The options are as follows:

Free Play: Standard Home Run Derby. You get 10 balls to hit and if you hit consecutive shots you will earn some VP points. You will not get red ball bonus pitches.

VP Challenge: You first pay an entrance fee (either 100 or 500 VP points) to enter. You will get an additional bonus ball for every homerun you hit so you can potentially hit up to 20 homeruns and earn a lot of points at the end.

View current Ranking: On this screen you can click R2/L2 to sort by HR's, distance or point records.

On the right side of the image shown above you can see the records for Most Points Achieved, Distance, and Number of HR hit.

The 3 options in the middle are Play, Exit Mode, and Switch between Analog stick (shown here) or use D-pad.

At the top, you can see the hitter you are using and his power rating (A). To the right of his power rating is his VP rate (15) and park factor multiplier (1.3)

Park Multiplier ranges from 1.0 to 1.3 depending on how large the park is.

For example this batter would get 15 x 1.3 = 19.5 points (rounded) for every home run hit in the 100 entry fee VP Challenge.

The scoring on the right side of the screen is displayed as follows:

30vp - This is the total points I acquired from the last pitch

3 COMBO +30vp - This shows I hit 3 consecutive HR's. You get 10 points for each combo so I earned 30 total for this pitch.

0vp - This is where your HR or bonus points will appear. Note that I'm playing in standard HR Derby so I do not gain any points after a HR, only combo points. You must pay an entry fee and play VP Challenge if you want to earn points off HR's.

Distance of your last hit is shown at bottom. 1m = 3.28 feet so 140m shown here equals a 459 foot blast.

If you choose the 100 point entry fee you'll gain the standard VP rate per pitch as calculated below...

White ball round:
(VP rate x park factor) + combo points = Total points per pitch

Bonus (red ball) Round:
(VP rate x park factor) x (HR's hit in bonus round x (VP rate x park factor)) + combo points = Total points per pitch

If you choose the 500 point entry fee you get double points for every HR as calculated below...

White ball round:
(VP rate x park factor x 2) + combo points = Total points per pitch

Bonus (red ball) Round:
(VP rate x park factor x 2) x (HR's hit in bonus round) + combo points = Total points per pitch

Maximum Home Runs possible: 20

Maximum Points: With a 500 point VP Challenge entry fee if a hitter with a VP rate of 250 hits all 20 home runs (good luck) in a park with a factor of 1.3 then the total points (and max) acquired would be 44150.

Maximum Distance: ??? The longest I have personally hit is 158m (518 feet)
