YOKOHAMA BAYSTARS

Written by Fullgatsu

NOTE: THE INFORMATION BELOW WAS BASED ON THE DEFAULT "OUT OF THE BOX" VERSION. IN 2010 THERE WERE 3 PATCHES WHICH WERE BASICALLY ROSTER UPDATES. THUS, IF YOU ARE RUNNING A FULLY PATCHED GAME THIS INFORMATION WILL NOT BE 100% ACCURATE BECAUSE SOME PLAYERS MOVED TO DIFFERENT TEAMS.

Yokahama Baystars have a history of last place finishs in the Central League and have had very little success but 1998 brings good memories for Baystars fans as the team won the CL pennent and the Japan series, their lineup was called the machine gun lineup as the had an ability to start a rally during the late innings.

Default Lineup:

1. Kinjo - #1 - CF 2. Fujita - #23 - SS 3. Uchikawa - #2 - 1B 4. Murata - #25 - 3B 5. Sledge - #3 - LF 6. Yoshimura - #31 - RF 7. Castillo - #51 - 2B 8. Hashimoto - #10 - C

Kinjo plays excellent defense on all outfield spots and have a really good arm aswell. His bat is good but suffers from RHP as he only have E against righty while C for leftys and have some power but he will mostly hit doubles as he have a 3 in arch. His speed is fine with a C but should almost never steal as he have Steal -2, He should probably bat somewhere else but Baystars have no one better to bat leadoff. He can awaken once and will get a C against RHP then.

Fujita is surehanded shortstop who is quite unimpressive with the bat but is a good bunter with Bunt +2. His value comes from his defense which really great and he can play SS, 2B and 3B. When he awakens his stamina improve a bit aswell as his bat.

Uchikawa had breakout season 2008 where he hit .378/.416/.540 and have since proved to be one of the better contact hitters in the league. In the game he's a really dangerous hitter against (B) RHP while only average against (D) LHP. He have some power with C and with an arch 4 which means he can hit some HR and his great contact ability will help in that. His defense is below average on any position but he can play all but CF and C incase of need but should probably stay first and stand in RF/LF. When awakened he will increase his contact against LHP and will when maxed get an S in it.

Murata together with Uchikawa are one of the few bright spots the Baystars have as Murata have shown to be one of the better thirdbasemans in the league even leading in HR some years. In the game Murata is powerhitter and have that skill, coupled with his S in power and arch 6 gives a pretty good description on what he does, He aslo have Opposite Power so he can get good power with the opposite field swing. His contact is better against RHP but when awakened to the max will be even against both. his defense is below average and he is quite immobile but if he gets to the ball his B rated arm should take care of many runners.

Sledge also brings power (A) to the table and have also the powerhitter skill. He's slightly better at hitting LHP but the difference is quite small. He is terrible on defense and should maybe switch position with Uchikawa.

Yoshimura also have the Powerhitter skill and complements it with B Power. His contact is bad but will become better when awakened two times as will his power. His defense is quite nice even though he is rated with an E in right field as he have decent speed with a good arm.

Castillo is one of the few foreigner that excels at defense and is not a powerhitter. His bat is unipressive and all his value is his defense which is quite good at 2B while his speed may be to low for SS he should be excelent at third if the need comes up as he have a cannon for an arm.

Hashimoto is an okay batter against RHP and should even have the power to hit some homeruns but against LHP he's really bad and even when awakened that wont change but he will become even better against RHP. He should sit against LHP but the other catchers are even worse so won't help much. His defense is also rather bad and and baserunners will have no problem stealing from him as his arm is rated a lowly F. This is a really weak position for Baystars.

On the bench you have #26 Saeki who hits for some power so he's a pinch hitting option. #7 Ishikawa when awakend some time becomes a real threat to RHP and even in his raw state he a good basestealer. #39 Natio if awakend some becomes a average contact hitter with great power. #37 Hayakawa is good defense option for the outfield and can be used on the basepaths.

In the Nigun you have #55 Tsutsugo who when awakened six times becomes alot like Murata. #6 Matsumoto when awakend six times becomes a great CF/RF with great contact good, speed and with a cannon arm. #67 Sakamoto when awakend six times becomes average contact hitter with great power and good speed.

Pitching

To start it of you have the ace #18 Daisuke Miura who have played for Baystars his whole career and have been able to have a winning percent over .500 which is impressive considering how bad baystar have been. He's a finess pitcher with great control and the game replicates this well, as he's not overpowering but since he can paint the corners with his pitches he can achive success. Unfortunely there is no skill called Tigers Killer in PYS but it should as Miura have been incredible against the Tigers.

#24 Terahara was a Koshien star as he for some time hold the speed record for the koshien tournament. He was first picked by the Hawks but struggled a bit and traded to Baystars where he improved. In the game he have good fastball but his other pitches are not impressive and while he can awaken his best breaking ball will at its best only be rated D.

#68 Randolph is quite an impressive pitcher but that maybe have changed with an update. Anyway he have B rated fastball with a C rated changeup that should get good results however his control is only F so it may become a problem.

#11 Yamaguchi should not be in the starting rotation but be in the closer position as he performs much better there.

Baystars bullpen is unimpressive at first but many can awaken several lvls so they can become good after some time.

In the Nigun you have #19 Fujie who can awaken five times and becomes good starting pitcher with C rated fastball and B rated forkball. #60 Sato can awaken six times but is good after the fourth, gets B rated fastball with B rated curve with 4 in break. Then you have #58 Ota who was a great pitcher for the Koshien powerhouse Tekiyo and many saw him as the best pitcher for the upcoming draft but he suffered control problems during his last year and Baystars picked him up during the third round in hope that he would regain his greatness, In this game he can awaken five times and when maxed gets a A rated fastball topping at 154 km/h with C rated forkball to go with it.
